The time has come for David Moyes to get to know his new stadium and supporters. However there will be limited time for protocol as the new coach has arrived at a time when there is hardly a moment of respite in the team’s league and cup schedule before the Christmas break. Moyes’ challenge is to take control of a side who just 12 days ago managed to beat current champions, Atleti at Anoeta. In Riazor, which saw the Scottish coach make his league debut, his team registered a discreet 0-0 draw. Despite his relatively short time at the club, fans will demand that his team put in a brighter performance from last Saturday’s drab draw in Galicia.
Unbeaten. Real Sociedad's rivals tonight, Elche, make their way North with the same amount of points as their hosts but recent performances have seen a considerable improvement from the green and whites. They have secured five points in their last three games and have yet to lose in November. For Escribá’s team, leaving Anoeta undefeated would see the team close the month in a positive manner despite the team still finding themselves stuck in the relegation zone as the league season comes into the Christmas break. Their main threat is Jonathas. The Brazilian is muscling in amongst the leading scorers of the league (taking Cristiano and Messi out of the equation of course) and is in a great run of form. Escribá is expected to opt for a similar starting eleven as played in last Sunday’s 2-2 draw with Córdoba. Rodrigues, is expected to start having overcome fatigue from his exertions on international duty. He will be a key player for the visitors on the expansive Anoeta pitch.
For La Real, Moyes is expected to choose a central pairing of Ansotegi and Elustondo, though his heavy artillery is in attack. If Vela and Agirretxe can perform as they did against Atlético two weeks ago, then Roco and Lombán are in for a long night. Elche have never won in San Sebastián in the first division but did overcome La Real in the season 2009-10 (0-1) when both teams were in the second division.
