Real Madrid began preparations for the mid-week Madrid derby today at Valdebebas without either Gareth Bale or Luka Modric. The first-team players underwent a recovery session, though the club are still waiting for news on Karim Benzema.
Carlo Ancelotti oversaw training with the same worried look with which he addressed the press following last night’s win at the Santiago Bernabeu. The news he received this morning was not good.
Early this morning Luka Modric underwent a scan which confirmed yesterday’s early diagnosis: knee ligament damage and out of action for over a month. Gareth Bale, who was taken off early with a calf injury, will have to wait until Monday to find out the full extent of his injury.
Meanwhile, Karim Benzema didn’t join the rest of the group and stayed indoors. He has a knock on his right knee. His involvement in Wednesday’s game against Atléti will depend on how his body recovers between now and then.
