Cristiano picks up the Man of the Match: “I’m back”

Cristiano Ronaldo appeared alongside Sir Alex Ferguson in the post-match press conference. Sir Alex presented the Real Madrid player with the Man of the Match award, saying, “It was very easy for me to choose the best player of the match even though there were a lot of very good performances. But Cristiano made choosing just one easier for me”.

Cristiano hit a brace to overtake Gerd Müller’s tally of 69 goals in European competition (he is level with Inzaghi on 70 and six behind the record holder, Raúl). “I feel good. This was my first official game and I wasn’t sure what would happen but I feel ok out there. The team really helped me and scoring gave me confidence. I felt comfortable, and with no pains at all. I feel good for being able to help the team win this Cup but I will continue working,” the player said. “The new signings did really well. I’ve already said that they are going to be very important players for us. They helped the team to win. It’s an important trophy – one which I’ve never won and have always wanted to win. I’m happy and very grateful that it was Sir Alex who presented me with my award”.
