Duda: "We will have our chances against Barcelona"

Portuguese midfielder Duda appeared in front of the press after Málaga’s morning training session to discuss the last-gasp point gained against Espanyol and Wednesday’s match against Barcelona in La Rosaleda. Of his 93rd-minute goal in Cornellá, Duda said: “I knew I had a great chance to score. It was the last minute of the match and I was fortunate in front of goal. It was very important for the team.”

Your left foot is the same as always... “It’s something that God gave me. I’m enjoying my football at the moment and as I said the important thing is to carry on getting points.”

In relation to the team’s play, the Portuguese noted that “we are seeing a lot of the ball. Against Barcelona it will be impossible [to dominate possession]but we will try to surprise them with some things I’m not going to talk about here [laughs]. We have pace and good passing. The boss wants us to play with the ball at our feet and we will have chances to score. We are happy with the team we have and the important thing is for the group to keep working as it has been.”

Would you take a last minute goal against Barcelona? “If it meant we would take the points home then then truth is yes. It will be a difficult game but we hope to be up to the task. We are playing at home, in front of our fans. We know that we are facing the best team in the league. We have to do our homework and have a bit of luck. If we carry on doing things as we have been we will have our chances.”

Barcelona’s goalkeeper situation: “[Claudio] Bravo had several good seasons at Real Sociedad, he got the team into the Champions League. Barça can’t complain about anything because they have all positions well covered. They have spent a fortune on goalkeepers.”
