"We’re improving; bit by bit we’re getting back to our best”

- How do you approach a week without any competitive games?

- It’s unusual because we don’t normally have that much time to prepare. We won’t do anything special, just get ready for the next game.

- How did you see the game and Benzema’s role in the first goal?

- Generally it was a really good game. To begin with, we didn’t play with much intensity. We’d played on Thursday evening and we were slow. I like how we played in the second half. We played more intelligently. Karim’s assist was spectacular.

- Were your congratulations for Benzema because you thought he won the game for you?

- The whole team played well, but the key moment in the game came from Benzema. What he did was extraordinary.

- Has your team lost a bit of intensity this month?

- In part. I think we finished the year with more intensity. The team is improving. James was struggling a bit physically but today he was in better condition. Bit by bit we’re getting back to our best.”

- Are you happy with Cristiano’s two goals?

- They were collective moves and that’s really good. The first by Karim and then two assists from James. Cristiano and Bale were the ones that finished them for us.

- How’s Bale and when will Modric be back?

- Bale is OK; it’s just a knock. Modric will be back in a month or so.
