Khedira and Alves now free to negotiate with other clubs

Sami Khedira and Dani Alves, along with a host of other players, can open negotiations with clubs of their choice as from today. All of the players whose contracts are due to expire in June will be trying to establish where they will be at the start of next season.

Khedira’s is a strange case. At the moment, it would appear that the German midfielder will leave Real Madrid this summer. Declarations made by the player and his agent however, have suggested otherwise. Khedira has stated that he won’t be moving on in June and that his agent has spent a while negotiating a contract extension with Madrid. The player underlined his desire to continue with Los Blancos just before Christmas. But due to his bad luck with injuries and other commitment-related issues which haven’t gone down well with the club, it seems that his chances of continuing are zero.

Nor is Dani Alves’ situation clear-cut. Last summer it looked like his Barça days were at an end; the Catalans tried to offload him but were unable to find a buyer. Alves later said that he was under contract with the club until June 2016 – which Barça denied, citing a unilateral release clause which would allow the defender to depart on a free contract as from June 2015. In the end, both parties reached an agreement with Alves’ contract ending this coming June. However, after the Court of Arbitration for Sport threw out Barcelona’s appeal against FIFA’s transfer ban, the club is now contemplating renewing the Brazilian full-back’s contract if they are going to be left short-staffed should the player leave. Neither Montoya nor Douglas have reached Luis Enrique’s expectations.

Another club who have cases to resolve is Sevilla. José Antonio Reyes, who has raised his game in recent month, Mbia, who is the team’s reference in attack and goalkeeper Beto, the hero of the Europa League final in Turin, could theoretically move on.

Others whose contracts are coming to an end include: Kron-Delhi (Celta), Gorka Iraizoz (Athletic), Aduriz (Athletic), Weligton (Málaga) and Sergio Sánchez (Málaga).
