Cristiano: "Rivalry with Messi? In my head I'm better"

Cristiano Ronaldo, who is today up for the award of Best Player in Europe from last season, has spoken of his relationship with Leo Messi and the rivalry he has with the Argentina striker in an interview with Portuguese television station TVI (Independent Televisao).

“The rivalry is formed by the press,” he said. “I have no rivalry with Messi. We face each other professionally and have a normal relationship.”

Speaking about people who think Messi is better: “You cannot please everyone, it is normal. I have to respect all opinions, my life does not depend on what people think.”

But who is better?: “Nobody is better or worse. Everyone does their job and tries to give the best for their team or country. Both of us want to be the best. I believe that in my profession I am the best and I work hard for that. In my head I always think I’m better.”
