Raúl Jiménez is “just the man we need” says Simeone

Atlético de Madrid coach Diego Simeone says he is satisfied with how the players the club have brought in during the transfer window and feels that the team has reinforced the attack sufficiently to confront the new campaign.

“I think with Raúl Jiménez’s arrival, we have considered the sort of characteristics the team needed,” Simeone explained during an interview with La Sexta. “I would describe him as a young player, a player who is active mainly in and around the area. He has pace and considering we have Griezmann, Raúl García and Mandzukic, with Jiménez, we have built quite a formidable front line”.

The coach was also asked whether he would be open to the possibility of bringing Fernando back to the Calderón but insisted that he is conscious of the financial constraints which limit the club’s spending this summer.

“Normally, coaches who don’t enjoy the spending power that some of the big clubs have, need to adapt to the economic allowance we’re given. When the management team are building the team we all put forward the ideas which we like. As the coach, I will say ‘this player has the kind of characteristics I’m looking for’ and the club, within their economic capacity, will try to meet the coach’s needs as best as it can. I’m very happy with the new reinforcements,” Simeone ended.
