"We made Di María an excellent offer and he rejected it"

"Real Madrid made a competitive offer to the player and he didn’t accept it. No player will earn more than Cristiano", Florentino Pérez explained this morning during a press conference held in the Bernabéu after presenting the clubs financial results.

Di María: “Between the year 2000 and today, the club has seen many players come and go. When a player leaves, they’re the best and new incoming players generate doubt. Di María has our affection and respect and I would never speak badly of a player who has been at the club and decides to leave. In this case the player had time on his contract but wanted to leave, he had financial aspirations that Real Madrid would not meet. The club made the player a competitive offer which he decided not to accept. Nobody here earns these quantities apart from Cristiano Ronaldo. If I had accepted these conditions I would have undermined the financial stability of the club. I’m happy that Di María has found another team and we’re happy for the amount received for his transfer.”

Xabi Alonso: “He approached us and explained his reasons for moving eloquently. He feels that the change is positive for a player of his age and we totally respect his fantastic manner of handling the situation. We have this position covered with the signing of Kroos and we’ve also made the decision to keep Khedira”.

Falcao: “He is a fantastic player and we’ve considered signing him, not just now but also in the past. We reviewed the situation with Ancelotti and made a decision not to pursue signing the player”.

The start of the new season: “We have a fantastic team. After winning the Super Cup we were lauded by the world’s media and neither Xabi nor Di María played in Cardiff. Against Real Sociedad, we dominated the game for 30 minutes and then lost our way. We need to keep working together, Anoeta was an accident”.

Casillas, substitute with Spain: “Team selection is a job for the coach and we have three good goalkeepers. One left the club as we received a competitive offer for his services. I’m not going to decide who plays that is exclusively the responsibility of Ancelotti”.

Income: “The world of football is changing. Although it appears that nothing has changed since 2000 plenty has. We’ve seen a global financial crisis. We´ve looked to generate income overseas and we’ve seen how football clubs have been taken over by investor’s which change the complexion of the game. The price of players’ transfers and salaries has increased but I am proud that this is a club belonging to its members”.

Khedira’s injury: “He went to Anoeta in great shape and now he’s injured. We’ve been asked that he stays with the German national squad until Monday and we’ve accepted. This is an injury that one feels when walking and he was walking perfectly. When the doctors on both sides have reached a conclusion, we’ll offer an explanation”.

Cristiano to Manchester: “I’ve mentioned it before; it’s a sign of affection that he holds for the club. Talk to him about it”.
