Raúl Jiménez relishing encounter with Chicharito

Raúl Jiménez spoke to Mexican daily ‘Récord’ just days before the Madrid derby in which he is likely to come face to face with compatriot, Chicharito Hernández.

Adapting to life at Atleti: “I’ve already adapted, I’m ready; now I just want to win my place in the side as soon as possible - although there is a lot of quality in the squad and I know it won’t be easy. I’ve come here to help Atlético and make my name in European football. I’m still only young but if Atleti have brought me on board they must be sure that I am at the level required”.

European football: “The kind of game played in Europe is more physical, it’s faster with more rhythm but I’m sure I won’t have any problems adapting. I’ll be judged on how many goals I score; I’ll be looking to score as a many as I can because that’s my job but I’ll also need to pressurize higher up the pitch when the boss asks me to. At Atlético, we all have to defend and attack and I’m ready to do that.

Characteristics: “I’m a box player, I’m always looking to pounce on loose balls in the area and shoot. I also like getting on the end of high balls; I think I’m quite skilful and quick”.

Chicharito: “It’s strange that we have both ended up here in Madrid. He’s a great player and has a lot of experience in the European game. I hope we meet each other in the derby on Saturday, it’ll be great to see him – and even better if I manage to find the net for Atleti”.
