Real Madrid eyeing summer move for Raheem Sterling

It was one of the names doing the rounds in the summer as a potential reinforcement at Real Madrid; Raheem Sterling. The Liverpool winger is one of the most exciting talents to emerge in England in a generation and the 19-year-old has already established himself in the England team. According to reports in the British media, Real will try and lure the Kingston-born flyer to the Bernabéu next summer.

Sterling, who will be 20 in December, is waiting on an improved contract offer from Liverpool. He currently earns two million euros per season, a low figure by any contemporary comparison and far less than other players at Liverpool without the youngster's profile or effect on the outcome of matches. Madrid sees the issue as a possible way to tempt Sterling to swap Anfield for the Bernabéu.

Sterling will be on show at Real's stadium on November 4 and the technical staff will be afforded another close look on October 22, when Real travels to Anfield for the Champions League Group B fixture.

Quick and with excellent technique, Sterling has always been a precocious player. He made his Liverpool debut in a friendly at 15 after Rafa Benítez snapped him up from QPR, and his senior debut at 17.

Reports in England on Wednesday have also linked Gerard Piqué with a move back to Manchester United. Louis van Gaal's side have been leaking goals are in desperate need of an experienced central defender. Piqué, meanwhile, has been relegated to a bench-warmer by Luis Enrique and while Barcelona are not conceding goals, it seems unlikely the Spain international will be able to dislodge Jérémy Mathieu and Javier Mascherano from the heart of Barça's defence.
