Simeone: "We're going to need a high level against Juventus"

Cholo Simeone appeared at a press conference to discuss tomorrow’s big game at the Vicente Calderón against Juventus, Atleti’s second match in the group stage of this season’s Champions League. The Atleti coach understands how tough his side’s opponents will be but is also aware how important victory is after defeat in the first match at Olympiacos.

The match. “It’s a final, as it will be in Valencia and the following match against Espanyol.”

The goalkeeper. “Moyà will play tomorrow.”

Gámez. “He is fine. We cannot give him the minutes he deserves for the training he is putting in. There is lots of competition for places. I have talked to him about the vision but beyond I cannot speak beyond that. When he’s called, he will be ready to play.”

Accompanying Mandzukic. “All games are not the same and we have responded well to the games in which he has played. We are going to rotate: Raúl Jiménez, Raúl Garcia, Cerci, Griezmann...the other day we played with five in the midfield...There are many different characteristics in the players we have to make up our attack.”

Juventus. “It has always worked well with the teams they have formed, they are always competitive. They will cause us difficulties but they will have the occasional errors, they have a good technique and they will demand a high level from us to play the game that we want.”

Cerci as a possible starter. “Yes, he’s in our squad.”

Gabi. “We will wait to see in training tomorrow morning. If he is able to play, he will, and if he is not 100 per cent he won’t. The alternatives are Mario, Saul, Koke and if Gabi does not play, one of them will.”

Personal relationship against Juventus. “I have much respect, admiration of the work they do collectively, with great champions in their ranks and that shows on the pitch. I have always had respect for them because they have always been very competitive.
