What have you said to your team-mates about Anfield?
I have warned them about the atmosphere that they are going to find. It’s not like a hostile atmosphere, but they have fans that provide a lot of support to their players. After five years it’s special for Liverpool to return to the Champions League and even more so against a team like Real Madrid. It’s going to be a special atmosphere. Even Cristiano has said that it is the most difficult ground in which he has played. Liverpool are going to push hard with the help of their supporters.
Can you compare it with the last time the two teams met (in 2009)?
I am very happy to return here. But since that match a lot has changed; from that Liverpool squad, only Gerrard, Skrtel and Lucas remain. It’s difficult to make a comparison.
How can you explain ‘This is Anfield’?
They are things which are difficult to explain and easier to feel. On those big Champions League nights when you go down the stairs you can feel that special atmosphere. There is a different sound when you hear the anthem. All football fans must experience the atmosphere of Anfield at least once. It's a special experience.
Is Cristiano in the finest moment of his career?
This is a recurring question with Cristiano. What he is doing is incredible. If you had asked him a few years ago he would not have believed it either. For us it is important that he is with us on the pitch. He almost guarantees you goals. The confidence that he has in himself is awesome. As I have said before, he is in the best moment of his career. He is always improving.
Do Liverpool seem less dangerous after seeing their difficult victory against QPR?
Even if Liverpool had lost 10-0 at the weekend I'd still be worried. I know what Liverpool are capable of on nights like these. They need the points more than we do. It’s going to be a great match and it is going to be a very difficult match too.
What do you think of the way James and Chicharito have started their Real Madrid careers?
Everyone can see the way they are adapting. James’ defensive involvement has been huge – the defenders are very appreciative. And Chicharito is also playing at a high level and is scoring goals. They are two great signings and I am sure that the manager is very happy with them.
What scares you more – Anfield or the landing that you had this morning with the hurricane winds?
The landing was not that bad - obviously Anfield is scarier. It will be a match where you have to enjoy the atmosphere, although it will not be in our favour. We want to take three points away from a legendary stadium. And Real Madrid have never won against Liverpool.
