Caparrós "The first goal killed us off"

"The first goal killed us off", said Joaquín Caparrós alter the heavy defeat inflicted on his team by Real Madrid earlier today. "I’m not sure if there was a foul or not", he added. "We can’t give away goals as we did with their second".

The first goal: "We prepared for the game with plenty of enthusiasm, but the first Madrid goal really affected us. The final score-line is deceptive. We deserved to score a goal though conceding so soon really disrupted our game-plan”.

The line-up: “We needed to start with a physically strong team to be able to compete and Eddy deserved the start. Physically we were able to match and compete with Madrid.

A rival from a different league: “Last year Atlético were champions but they still lost to some of the teams form the bottom half of the table. We want to compete but the first and then second goals took the wind out of our sails. We really can’t afford to concede goals like the second so cheaply from a throw in”.

Spirit: “Objectives are secured by teams who are mentally strong”.

Ripping up the front cover of a sports paper: “I apologize for the manner in which I behaved. It’s not my style. I shan’t be talking about this matter again”.
