Atlético back to work but without Miranda

Atlético de Madrid were back at work on Monday evening, completing their first training session after the Christmas holidays. Four players were unable to take part in the evening workout in Majadahonda: Raúl García, Saúl and Jesús Gámez were absent due to commitments in the ‘Champions for Life’ charity match while João Miranda, who missed the pre-Christmas meeting with Athletic Club game because of a muscle sprain, underwent physiotherapy inside the training complex. AC Milan-bound Alessio Cerci showed up at the Cerro del Espino to collect his personal belongings and bid farewell and good luck to his team mates and members of the coaching staff. The Italian is due to fly to Rome on 1 January and will undergo a medical the following day.

Monday’s session was split into two parts – the first, an intense physical workout followed by a final half hour dedicated exclusively to ball work. The players who trained inside the gym appeared later to complete several laps of the pitch perimeter. Ansaldi is over his muscular problem and trained as normal at the same pace as the rest.

The Atlético squad return to Majadahonda for morning sessions on Tuesday and Wednesday. Simeone has programmed the New Year’s Day session for the early evening so that the players can see 2015 in with their families.
