Atlético Madrid expel eight socios involved in fatal fight

Atlético Madrid have this week expelled eight socios (club members) that the police identified on November 30 following the fatal brawl that took place near the Vicente Calderón stadium. In the police’s official record, 15 identified persons revealed their ties to Atlético. Of these 15, seven were paid-up socios and one was a non-paid-up socio. Those eight have been expelled. The club wrote them an official written statement, informing them of their banishment, and they all received an official message with this communication at their homes.

Furthermore, these socios had two membership cards belonging to other people that were not in the vicinity of the Calderón on that day, but they too have been expelled also. The seven who were identified who aren’t socios cannot access Atlético’s grounds.

Atlético are not willing to slacken in their fight to rid the Calderón of violent supporters. This season, 17 socios are fulfilling some sort of sanction, as the police identified them of having committed some type of offence inside the stadium.

On Friday, the club issued a statement outlining special measures for the forthcoming match against Villarreal and Atlético will possibly make public new control measures for both the Calderón and for matches away from home.
