Eight academy products have debuted under Simeone

Diego Simeone handed first-team debuts on Thursday night to Iván Pérez and Sekou Keita. Following their debuts, eight Atlético academy products have now made their first-team bows under Simeone. The others who have played for Atleti for the first time under the Argentinian include Saúl, who started yesterday’s match, Kader, Óliver, Carlos Ramos, who also played against L’Hospitalet, Héctor and Lucas. The latter made his debut in the first leg and started again on Thursday.

Iván Pérez, who arrived from La Hoya in 2013, is 22 years and plays for Atlético Madrid B in the Segunda División B. Meanwhile, Keita is a forward who just turned 20. He joined the club from Guinean side Horoya in 2012.

In the end Borja Martínez, another footballer from the club’s reserve side that featured in their 17-man squad on Thursday, did not play against L’Hospitalet, but Cholo also has him in mind.
