Madrid fever: Tickets in high demand for Celta Vigo clash

The Madrid of Ancelotti unleashes passion. So much so that there were only 19 tickets left for sale for Saturday’s league match against Celta (20:00 CET) in the early hours of Friday. The club’s current winning streak (which is at 17, one away from the record set by Rijkaard with Barça) and the impressive performances produced by the league leaders in recent months has fuelled the passion of the fans, who do not see a limit to this team.

It’s curious. When Celta, then coached by Luis Enrique, visited the Bernabéu last season (on January 6, the Day of the Kings), the attendance was given as 65,217. Tickets cost from €25, the cheapest, to €115. More than 15,000 seats were left vacant...

Eleven months on and the tickets have sold like hot cakes, even though the prices have increased a little, from €30 the cheapest to €130 the most expensive. The lack of available tickets has led to the club making several calls to members to ask them to notify the club if they cannot attend the match in order to put their ticket on sale (since 2001 tickets have been transferrable). The holiday on Monday may also have helped with interest in the game.

There are also other factors involved. After Saturday’s match, Madrid host Ludogorets in the Champions League on Tuesday (the final match of the group stage). After the visit of the Bulgarians, the Madrid fans cannot see their team on home soil until after the winter break.

Postponed. The fact Madrid play in the Club World Cup in Morocco, held between December 10-20 of this month, has seen the club postpone their home match against Sevilla, originally scheduled for December 16. It is set to be confirmed for February 4 2015. The fans want to see Ancelotti’s Madrid and if they win these next two home matches on home soil their winning streak will stretch to a record 19 wins.
