Emery expresses relief after Almería examination

Sevilla coach Unai Emery feels his team did well to come out on top in an evenly-fought match at Almería. The 2-0 result, with second half goals coming from Iborra and Coke, allows Sevilla to move into the Champions League qualifying positions.

“Almería are a difficult team to play against and our goals came against the run of play,” Emery told reporters afterwards. “They wouldn’t let us play our own game and really, the only difference on the day was that we put away the chances we had and they didn’t. I expected it to be a close game – they went into it on the back of two important wins (against Celta and Málaga) and so their confidence is very high. Almería made us battle for the full 90 minutes and Édgar and Hemed caused us no end of problems”.

Emery also defended striker Carlos Bacca who was conspicuously absent for large parts of the match. “He’s already scored lots of goals for us this season and he worked hard today. That is what pleased me most about Carlos and Kevin Gameiro today – they didn’t stop trying and if they continue to show effort, the goals will follow”.
