Quique signs until 2017: "It's like I never left"

Before being officially presented as Getafe’s new coach, Quique Sánchez Flores took his first training session of the team. The Spaniard chatted to his players for half an hour before they travelled to the training complex. He was joined by Alberto Giraldez, Antonio Diaz and Jose Luis Gallardo, while Oscar Garcia remains as the club. He has signed for the rest of this season and two more, with a contract until 2017.

Is your return a risk?

I consider it a great experience. I am happy and enthused to be back training in the Spanish league with a former club. I will work for people I know.

Did you have to think about taking the challenge on?

I thought about it very little. I had a meeting with Toni where we spoke about the situation and had a few things to think about. I wanted to stay in Europe and to return to a big league.

This is not the same team you had before...

We assume the same responsibilities, the club is established. I am glad to be here. After all the travelling I am happy to see some familiar faces and a club that has grown.

Have you watched the team play recently?

In the last two weeks the players have lived in different situations, they have been distracted. So in recent games we have not see the best of them. But Getafe is designed to make things right and hit targets. We will work professionally and in the shortest time possible we hope to achieve many things.

What do you need from this squad to meet your goals?

The squad is ready. There have been injuries that have made us suffer, but these things happen in football and we will react. There is a winter transfer market to try and build a squad that can compete well in the remaining five months of the season.

How have you changed since you first arrived here?

I came from Real Madrid youth and now I’ve had a lot more experiences. Ten years have passed and I have worked with many teams, winning five titles. Professionally I am not the same.

You experienced a period of euphoria with the stadium full. Can you repeat that?

We need to remember how we got there. The Coliseum was filled by a mood that everyone put out. There is an important job here and we need the fans. We need to be a team that people like to watch.

You seem happy on your return...

I'm happy, it's been ten years since I left here and I just wanted to go to a place where I want to be happy and Getafe is one of those places. I’ve only been here a few hours and it’s like I never left. It is a priority at this point in my life to be somewhere I am happy and I am here.
