"My body doesn’t respond like it used to” admits Messi

Leo Messi unveiled the new Adidas shop on Passeig de Gràcia in Barcelona this evening – an event which drew a sizeable crowd including a host of journlists.

The player told the media that Barça have improved substantially since their New Year opener at Real Sociedad: “That defeat produced a change in attitude – the team are showing more desire now. In our last few games, we’ve gone out fired up and have pressurized our opponents right from kick-off. The players really wanted to change the image we left in San Sebastián and you can really tell the difference”.

Barça’s style of play

I think we have two variants; we have two styles and we can switch between either of them. With the pace we have up front, we can play a counter-attacking game and take advantage of the space our rivals leave us or we can play in our usual way. We haven’t lost the Barça philosophy of patience and short passing.

Healthy habits

I’m 27 now and it’s not the same as when I was younger. You continue to grow and age. Before, I could do almost anything and my body wouldn’t notice but now I try to make sure I get some rest and take care about what I eat.

This season’s objectives

We want to win every competition we’re involved in. Sometimes you can and sometimes you can’t but this year, we are going for the lot; we want to win trophies and enjoy ourselves. On a personal level I just want to continue doing what I’ve been doing and helping the team in every way I can so that Barça continues to improve.

Prudent approach

You can really tell the difference since the Anoeta game but we haven’t won anything yet. We’ll be trying to maintain this positive dynamic that the team is in and continue at this level. I’m very happy with how it is all going and I just hope it continues this way.

Málaga visit

We have to continue along the same lines and go out to win as we always do. We’ll be treating that game as we always do - with the intention of taking all three points.
