"Ancelotti, Caparrós and Luis are the best coaches I’ve had"

Real Madrid and Spain defender Sergio Ramos gave an interview to Fifa.com, admitting that with Spain “We were able to enjoy a unique period with an amazing group of players. We were crowned world champions and European champions twice. Let’s see if anyone can match that.”

Asked about “2014 and the Brazil World Cup he said: "It was a very intense year, full of very gruelling games, and perhaps we weren’t in the best shape when we got to Brazil.”

“Football’s a game and sooner or later the day that we would lose, that we’d get knocked out [of a major tournament], had to come. Now we have to focus on the future, on a new group of players that believes it can win things," he added.

However, Ramos had fonder memories of European football in 2014 and Los Blancos’ hallowed tenth Champions League triumph: “Over ten seasons at Real Madrid I’ve won pretty much everything, but that [the Champions League] was missing. That’s what tips the balance for me to choose 2014 as my best year,” he said. “At Real Madrid, La Décima was always spoken of obsessively, so making that day come was pretty much an obligation,” he added.

The Madrid defender also went on to discuss his current coach Carlo Ancelotti: “He was a player himself, he knows all about players who come in from outside the club and he understands the problems they might have. He’s a coach who takes you aside, talks to you and makes everything as smooth as possible, both on a professional and personal level,” he said.

Asked about how the other coaches in his career compare, he said: “There’s Luis Aragonés, then you have Joaquin Caparrós, who really believed in me when I was a nobody. I have had some fantastic coaches and Ancelotti’s definitely in the top three.”
