Real Madrid beat Barcelona to lift Copa del Rey

Real Madrid came out on top against Barcelona in a gruelling Copa del Rey final in Gran Canaria , winning 77-71. Madrid have now won the competition 25 times compared to the 23 times of Barcelona. Rudy Fernández led the way for Pablo Laso’s side, countering the superb performance of Barça’s Ante Tomic with an ‘MVP’ performance.

The title went right down to the wire, with the score stood at 71-71 with just a minute to play. But a foul from Oleson on Reyes helped Madrid edge into a 73-71 lead. Madrid did not look back and added four more points to secure the win, without letting Barcelona in at the other end.

Nocioni, who equalled the record of appearances in the final with four, was one of Madrid’s star performers along with Gustavo Ayon and Sergio Rodríguez. Barça will look at the poor performance of Marcelinho Huertas and the disappearance of Hezonja, both of whom failed to add any points to the scoreboard.
