Iker Muniain to undergo knee repair surgery on May 7

Athletic Bilbao forward Iker Muniain will undergo surgery on May 7 to repair the broken anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee that was suffered on April 4 during his side's match against Sevilla, Athletic said in a statement on Thursday.

The operation will consist of "arthroscopic surgery," which, although it has not been confirmed by the club, will probably be performed by specialist Mikel Sánchez in Vitoria. Sánchez has previously operated on Athletic players including Iñigo Ruiz and Carlos Gurpegui. Muniain is expected to be out for six to seven months as a result of the injury.

Meanwhile, Ander Iturraspe's recovery from a muscle tear is moving ahead "with favourable prognosis and without complications" the club confirmed. Iturraspe will remain sidelined for the match against Getafe at the weekend but it nearing a return to full training after a course of physiotherapy and fitness work.
