"It's a good result, but nothing has been decided"

Athletic Bilbao manager Ernesto Valverde spoke to the press after his side's 1-1 Champions League draw with Napoli in the San Paolo.

What did you think of the game?

It was very intense, we played well and dominated for 70 minutes and we could have scored a second goal. Then Higuaín invented a great shot and we were under the cosh at the end.

How do you see the tie after this result?

The tie hasn't been decided yet. We managed to score here and we know that Napoli is obliged to score in San Mamés. We have great respect for our opponent and it's a good result, but nothing has been decided.

What happened to your team at the start? You struggled to get into the game.

We don't have the same experience that Napoli has in these competitions and that is why we had an uphill battle. Afterward I liked what I saw from our team a lot, there were several points in the match when we were able to dominate and it is normal to go through tough moments against a strong rival.

Were you surprised by San Paolo?

I wasn't surprised, it was what I expected. In these games the fans are really up for it and what was at stake was evident in the atmosphere. We hope it will be the same in San Mamés.

Is Napoli still the favourite to go through after this result?

It doesn't really matter who the favourite is. Napoli now has to score, we played a good game here and we have to the same in San Mamés.

Are you going to try and take the game to Napoli in San Mamés or will you gamble on the result from the first leg?

We have a week [until the return leg] and we have a league match in between. Our intention is to stamp our identity on the game in the best way possible and try to play as we did today.
