Del Bosque announces first post World Cup squad

This morning Spanish boss Vicente del Bosque named his first post World Cup squad for both the friendly against France on September 4th and the first Euro 2016 qualifier against Macedonia due to be played in Valencia the following Monday. Eight players which made up the World Cup squad have been omitted: Reina, Piqué, Javi Martínez, Xabi, Xavi, Mata, Villa and Torres. Casilla, Carvajal, San José, Raúl García and Alcácer are all debutantes in Del Bosque’s squad and once again the Spanish boss has shown faith in Bartra, Isco and Iturraspe.

Carvajal was included in the preliminary 30 man Brazil World Cup squad; however he failed to make the final squad of 23 and has yet to make his international debut. Last season, Bartra, Isco and Iturraspe were all included in previous Del Bosque squads. Bartra played in Spain’s friendlies against Equatorial Guinea and South Africa whilst Isco was called up on nine previous occasions and played in just two (the friendly against Uruguay and the World Cup qualifier against Georgia).

Goalkeepers: Casillas, De Gea and Casilla.

Defenders: Juanfran, Carvajal, San José, Ramos, Bartra, Albiol, Jordi Alba and Azpilicueta.

Midfielders: Koke, Iturraspe, Busquets, Iniesta, Raúl García, Silva, Pedro, Cazorla, Cesc and Isco.

Forwards: Diego Costa and Alcácer.
