"I have been through worse moments in my career"

Iker Casillas appeared at a press conference alongside teammate Gareth Bale and coach Carlo Ancelotti in the Cardiff City Stadium, where he spoke about the Super Cup match against Sevilla and his recent travails between the sticks for Real Madrid and Spain.

- It’s a special final. Is there more at stake for you than your teammates?

“I don’t think there’s anything at stake for me personally. This is an important game for Madrid after the prize of winning the Decima. It’s a day to be enjoyed and to win, because Real Madrid has the obligation to go for the trophy. It is about Real Madrid, it is not a matter of Iker Casillas.”

- Do you feel you are constantly being judged? Does it bother you?

“No. I understand that when you play for Real Madrid for so long your name rings constantly when things are good and when they are bad. Luckily, in my case it has almost always been when things are good. You have to grin and bear it and face up to situations like this. I have always done so and I am not going to hide now.”

- Does this season represent a particular challenge for you?

“I am excited about getting back to winning. The reality is that my teammates as much as myself are obliged to win. We cannot live on the memory of what we did a few months ago. We have to win the Super Cup to gain confidence and then go for the Spanish Super Cup as well.”

- Do you feel you have been treated unfairly?

“No, not at all. I know that after so long at Madrid you are always being watched. But the club has treated me very well, I have no complaints. I want to push myself even harder than last year.”

- Is the worst moment of your career?

“I don’t think so. You go through good moments and bad moments. Everything is temporary. I have not been at the level I was when maybe people became spoiled. I have not been at my best in the last few games for Real Madrid and Spain, but I have been through worse moments in my career. And I have analyzed them and learned from them.”

- What effect will Kroos and James have on the team?

“A positive one; when they start playing they will bring something different to the team. And if you add them to a side that won the Champions League and the King’s Cup, it can only be a good thing. It is very easy to fit in with us and to adapt to the team and the city.”
