Neymar Sr: "Real offered €150 million for my son"

The father of Barcelona forward Neymar, Neymar de Silva Sr., appeared in the Spanish High Court on Wednesday as a witness to answer questions over the signing of the Brazil international by the Camp Nou club last summer. During his testimony, which lasted two hours, Neymar Sr. said that Real Madrid had offered Santos 150 million euros for his son, but that Neymar Jr. preferred to accept a smaller salary and play for Barcelona instead.

Sources present during the proceedings told Efe that Neymar Sr justified the dozen different contracts Barcelona signed in order to bring Neymar to Camp Nou, including one paying a salary of two million euros to Neymar Sr. to act as a scout in Brazil, which led to Barça signing three players.

Another of these contracts paid four million euros to the firm Neymar and Neymar, controlled by Neymar Sr., to oversee the promotion of Neymar as a Barça player in Brazil. In court, Neymar Sr. denied he had used some of this fee to set up an office in Barcelona.

In his role as adviser to his son Neymar Sr. received five percent of Neymar's fee, which he also defended in front of Judge Pablo Ruz, who is investigating alleged tax crimes and misappropriation over the Brazilian's transfer. The suit was brought by a Barcelona club member, Jordi Cases, who claimed that former club president Sandro Rosell embezzled 40 million euros from the deal. Rosell subsequently stepped down from his post.

Neymar Sr. also testified that he had been paid several million euros to bring the deal forward by a few months. N&N was paid a fee of 40 million euros for the signing of Neymar, which Barcelona did not publicly declare to the authorities. It is that aspect of the deal, which Rosell at the time insisted had cost the club 57.1 million euros, which resulted in the case against Rosell.
