David Villa on injuries: "You have to trust the players"

David Villa spoke about the recent incidents relating to injury-enforced absences from the Spanish national team. The New York City forward said that if players did not attend the national team squad congregation, it is because they are not fully able to play.

He said: “I can’t comment because I am not there, but players always want to play football. From my experience, the worst thing for a player is being injured. No player has an unwillingness to play going through their head, either with the national team or their club side.

"Therefore if a player is injured, like Costa and some others, it is because they really cannot play the game. Therefore you have to trust in him, in the decision of the player, and the doctors.”
