Del Bosque tries Morata and Alcácer up front together

Vicente del Bosque tried out a ‘double number nine system’ during Spain’s open training session at Las Rozas on Wednesday. The national team boss tested a team significantly different to the one he used on Tuesday, with Sergio Ramos and Piqué paired at the back and Morata and Alcácer used as a strike partnership.

In the first half of the test, the coach put the following players in the same team: Casillas, Juanfran, Piqué, Ramos, Alba, Koke, Busquets, Cazorla, Isco, Morata and Alcácer. Then he paused the session and kept his defence the same while radically changing his midfield and attack, drafting in Bruno, Camacho, Callejón, Pedro and Nolito, with Alcácer retaining his place in attack. Indications suggest his first line-up will start the match against Belarus on Saturday 15 November, while the majority of the second line-up, with only one striker, could face Germany on Tuesday 18 November.

In any case, it seems clear that Isco will be a starter against Belarus because he has been tested with both teams that are presumed to be starting XIs. Isco has made four appearances for Spain (the friendlies against Uruguay and France and the competitive matches against Georgia and Macedonia) but has only featured for a total of 89 minutes. He is yet to start a match for La Roja.
