Gabi spoke at a press conference on Monday, the day before Atlético Madrid’s Champions League match against Malmö at the Malmö New Stadium. The captain returns to Champions League action after missing the match against the Swedish team at the Vicente Calderón.
The opponent: “I expect the Malmö of the first half of the match at the Vicente Calderón. They are a team that close down very well in defence and are very dangerous on the counter-attack. We will see a very aggressive Swedish team and one very different from the second half of the match at the Calderón. In the first match we struggled to score in the first half, they shut up shop well, but Atlético were very persistent. At home Malmö are a very powerful unit, they don’t concede goals and we cannot underestimate anyone.”
The group: “That all teams have won their home matches points to the tremendous equality that there is in the group. If we win tomorrow, it will provide us with a very important step, after the previous two victories against Juventus and against Malmö.”
Personal situation: “My particular situation has gone well, each day it is better, they are football situations and I am thinking about the match against Malmö. For me that is what is most important. I am flattered when the coach talks about me, but in this group no-one stands above anyone.”
