Isco won the ball back more than any other Madrid player

Isco was consistent all the through the game, he was sound defensively and good going forward, as he always is. He’s shown that he can play in that position.” When Carlo Ancelotti said those words in the press room after the Eibar game he probably hadn’t had the chance to take a look at the match statistics. But those statistics clearly backed up his point. Isco, statistically speaking, was fantastic.

The Andalusian played well in areas of the field. He won the ball back 12 times for his team, the most in the match along with Eibar's Dani Garcia. To put his performance into some perspective, he won the ball back five times more than Toni Kroos.

As we’ve come to expect, Isco also stood out going forward. Though he played in a more advanced role for the national team against Germany in mid-week he seemed to have no problem lining up in a different position on Saturday night, playing the role like a natural. He had more touches than he usually does (he’s a player who thrives in dynamic forward movements). He completed 72 of 77 passes, a 93.5% completion rate – the best on the team. He only committed one foul. Ancelotti simply saw what we all saw: that he had an excellent game.
