Cristiano amazes the world, Catalonia speaks of "shame"

The 200th goal of Cristiano and the records the Madrid star leaves behind have not gone unnoticed. The press recognised the hat-trick that helped Madrid to victory over Celta and also noted the controversial penalty that set things in motion.

Argentine newspaper ‘Olé’ led with Cristiano on their main page with the headline “Take off the hat”. Within the story it said: “directed by the Portuguese, Madrid looked as strong as ever. With Cristiano Ronaldo as their emblem and the author of another hat-trick, they defeated the team of Toto Berizzo, which could do nothing to to stop the power of the Portuguese.”

In Italy ´La Gazzetta dello Sport’ noted the “comfortable” victory for Madrid over Celta “with Cristiano’s treble already seeing him reach 200 league goals”, adding: “he exceeds the record of trebles, one more than Di Stéfano and Zarra. Congratulations.”

L’Equipe, meanwhile, also noted the number of times Cristiano has been able to take the match ball back to his museum. The French newspaper added that the “Bernabéu gave him a standing ovation.”

In ‘A Bola’, in his native Portugal, they echo the compliments thrown his way in light of his 200th league goal: “A new milestone in his career, it reveals the effectiveness of Cristiano, who needed only 178 games to reach 200 goals.”

British newspaper ‘The Guardian’ went with the headline “Cristiano Ronaldo sets La Liga hat-trick record”, while German paper ‘Bild’ makes mention of the controversy surrounding the penalty, saying: “A hat-trick for Cristiano, but what’s with all the diving?.”

The Catalan press were less enthused. In ‘Sport’ they carried the headline “The diving Cristiano culminates a month of shame.” They accompanied it with a story that read: “a new controversy for Real Madrid’s Cristiano as they thrashed Celta with the help of Undiano Mallenco, who invented the penalty that led to the first goal.” ‘El Mundo Deportivo’ the headline “A Madrid victory with a non-existent penalty”. They also highlighted the number of penalties Cristiano scores: “CR7 Penalties: With his dramatic fall inside the Celta box, Cristiano has scored seven of his 23 goals through penalties in the league.”
