Beckenbauer: "Pep Guardiola doesn't need a contract"

Bayern Munich's honorary president, Franz Beckenbauer, said on Wednesday that manager Pep Guardiola doesn't need a contract with the club as he has complete freedom to leave when he wishes despite whatever arrangement is on paper between the parties.

In the regular Bild feature "Three Questions for Franz," Beckenbauer said that he hopes the Spanish coach stays at Bayern for 10 years and stated his belief that few clubs in the world can offer the working conditions that Guardiola enjoys at the Allianz Arena.

Beckenbauer added that after Bayern's traditional Christmas celebration he was sure that Guardiola and his family are settled and happy in Munich. However, he added that whether Guardiola extends his stay at Bayern or decides to seek fresh pastures has little to do with contracts.

"In principle Pep doesn't need a contract. If he wants to leave, he'll leave anyway."
