Cani: "It’s hard to turn down an offer from Atleti"

Cani was presented this morning as a new Atlético Madrid player. He will wear the number 22 shirt and was adamant, "when you get the call to come to play for Atleti, you drop everything to one side. I really didn’t expect this opportunity. My aim is to really take advantage of all the playing time that’s afforded to me by the coach. I hope to play well and be at the club for some time". Reflecting on the aspirations for his new club this year he added that, "I’ve been here for just two days and the idea is to be a competitive team and as the coach says, just take each game as it comes. That’s the way I’ve viewed the game up until now".

On his new colleague, Torres, he added: "He can bring plenty to the squad, excitement as we saw on the day of his presentation to being a key player on the pitch". The new player also reflected on the style of Someone’s team. “I see a team playing with a great deal of intensity, battling for everything. Giving the rivals nothing. The team competes well without being overly aggressive".

He also acknowledged that he’d liked his departure from Villarreal to have been concluded in a different manner: "After eight years there, it’s not the best way for any player to leave, but it is what it is. There was nothing firmed up with Olympiacos. My objective is to train hard and get into perfect shape".
