Laudrup advises Ødegaard against Madrid move

Teenage promise Martin Ødegaard is believed to be very close to signing for Real Madrid but some have voiced their concerns about the player joining one of Europe’s big clubs before he has time to develop. Former Real Madrid player Michael Laudrup has recommended that the 16-year-old reconsiders and thinks carefully before putting pen to paper. “Ødegaard? I’m not entirely convinced that joining a club like Madrid would be the right move. He is 16 years old, I cannot imagine seeing him playing right now in Real Madrid or Bayern Munich,” Laudrup told German daily, Merkur. “If hr were my son, I would advise him to go to Holland”.

Laudrup knows the Eredivisie and the country well – it was in Holland and with Ajax that he brought an end to his playing days in 1998.

The Dane isn’t the only one who is against Ødegaard moving to Madrid. Jan Aage Fjörtoft, Director of Sport with the Norway national team also believes it would be a mistake. He told Munich-based daily TZ: “The national team coach Per Mathias Ogmo and myself have had numerous chats with the player and his father and we have given them our opinion. At the end of the day, the player himself will make his decision and whatever he chooses, we will still be counting on him with the national team”.
