New Madrid signing Silva pulled from squad for La Real

"He is fine. He'll be in the squad and he might get a few minutes." These were Carlo Ancelotti's words on Friday regarding new Real Madrid's new signing Lucas Silva. Everything seemed in place for the Brazilian midfielder to make his Bernabéu bow against Real Sociedad on Saturday afternoon but the Italian in the end decided to drop Silva from the match-day squad list and the player didn't even have the chance to get into his kit. Ancelotti will doubtless be quizzed about Silva's absence in the press room after the match.

Silva's paperwork was finalized on Friday, meaning there was no legal impediment to the player being used, but the Brazilian's debut will have to wait. Silva himself admitted when he arrived at the club that he wasn't 100 percent match fit: "I have had a week of pre-season with Cruzeiro and have been doing physical and ball work. I'm at somewhere over 80 percent. I am going to train hard to adapt as quickly as possible."
