No shortage of offers for Elche hot shot Jonathas

Elche striker Jonathas de Jesús admitted that his agent received a number of offers from other clubs during last month’s transfer window but he rejected all of them because his priority is helping the team remain in the top flight for another season.

“ I had a lot of offers and my agent left it up to me to decide whether I wanted to move on or stay here. I told him that I want to stay because I am happy here. I want to work with my team mates to ensure that Elche reaches its objective which is to stay in the Liga BBVA,” Jonathas, the team’s top scorer with eight goals to date, told reporters in this afternoon’s press conference.

The 25-year-old didn’t want to guarantee that he will still be at Martínez Valero next season, adding, “My ambition has always been to demand more of myself and I am never completely satisfied. I don’t know what will happen tomorrow – only God knows that”.

Elche have until June 30 to find 1.5 million euros to purchase 50 per cent of the player’s rights but the striker insists he is under no pressure. “I just concentrate on doing what I enjoy which is playing football – that’s what makes me happy. I don’t feel under pressure - if this is what pressure is like then I’m happy to be in the position I’m in”.
