Wenger: "Sánchez can defy the medical staff" for derby

Although Arséne Wenger stated on Thursday that Alexis Sánchez would be unavailable for the North London derby against Tottenham Hotspur at the weekend, it seems now that the Chile international stands a chance of playing, mostly through his own desire to do so.

"He wants to play. It's not easy [to tell him that he's not going to]. Of course he wants to be in the team. He's very enthusiastic and I think he can challenge the medical staff purely through his eagerness," said Wenger in Friday's pre-match press conference.

However, the Frenchman did not confirm whether or not he would include Sánchez in his starting 11 at White Hart Lane: "I don't know yet. I need to ask the medical staff and see what in practicality he can do."
