Sevilla brush Córdoba aside

With Reyes, Sevilla is a different side. Without him, Emery’s team have three points from 12. With him on the pitch it’s all smiles in the Sánchez Pizjuán and more so if he can team up with an inspired partner like Banega. Córdoba went to play a tight match at the back and try and hit Sevilla on the break, but the home side kept going in search of a way through until they had the ball in the back of Juan Carlos’ net.

In spite of the number of men in and around the Córdoba box, the Sevilla attack was a pile-driver. Aleix Vidal’s runs up the right, Bacca’s physical presence, Reyes’ sparks. Ghillas showed his teeth on the occasional counter attack, but did very little. The goal for Sevilla had to come and it did as the goals came for this side last season in games where they were struggling to score. Corner from Reyes and goal for Krychowiak. The Pole is a wonderful header of a football: power and placement. Córdoba had lasted 38 minutes and in the next five they committed suicide, because a long ball from Pareja found Vitolo who gifted the goal to Bacca, with the Córdoba defence all at sea.

Djukic changed his miserly set-up to put Ekeng and Bebé on after the break. But obviously wasn’t expecting the first of his changes to last all of only eight minutes on the pitch; he was sent off for kicking Vitolo in the face. Córdoba gave up at this stage and Sevilla decided to enjoy themselves, bringing off Reyes, but ending up in a slight spot of trouble when Krychowiak went in with a terrible challenge on Khrin that saw him sent off.

There was still time though for Banega to show off his skills and for Iborra to get on the scoresheet, to get rid of the sour taste in the mouth after the Bernabéu and Getafe.

Sevilla is a clear candidate for fourth spot; Córdoba is also a candidate, but unfortunately for their fans not for fourth spot, but for relegation.
