Spain’s Anti-Violence in Sport Commission has declared this Wednesday’s Copa del Rey second leg between Espanyol and Athletic ‘High Risk’, meaning an increased police presence and tightened security measures.
Before the first leg, held in Bilbao on 11 February, an 18 year old local man was arrested and accused of breach of the peace for throwing objects at Espanyol fans, as part of a clash between various supporters of the two sides.
Stones were thrown at Espanyol’s team bus just outside San Mamés stadium, and several of its windows were broken. As yet unidentified individuals threw the stones, which also damaged police cars escorting the bus.
