Cristiano Ronaldo continues breaking records. With his penalty against Villarreal he became the first player in history to score 30 or more goals in five Ligas in a row, according to Mr Chip’s stats. Since he came to Real Madrid he’s only failed to reach 30 goals in one season, his first (2009-10) when he managed 26.
In 2010-11 he scored 41 goals, and bagged the 30th of the campaign against Barcelona in week 32. That year he was the tournament’s top scorer. The season after, 2011-12, he set his personal record in the Liga of 46, though he wasn’t the top scorer overall that year, as Messi set the all-time record of 50. Ronaldo’s 30th goal that year came in week 25 against Espanyol.
Cristiano then hit 34 in season 2012-13, with this 30th coming in week 31 against Athletic. He was the tournament’s top scorer the season after with 31 goals, scoring the 30th in week 35 against Osasuna.
And this year he’s now reached the total of 30 with his goal yesterday against Villarreal. He’s top of the scoring charts, three ahead of Messi.
And it was Messi who had every chance to be the first player to get to 30 goals five seasons in a row, having hit 34 in 2009-2010, 31 in 2010-2011, 50 in 2011-2012 and 46 in 2012-2013, but last season he managed only 28.
