Danilo: "I'm ready to accept any challenge"

How are the negotiations going between Real Madrid and Porto?

I’m here to represent the Brazilian national team…I’m having a great time at Porto and it’s natural that there is speculation and talking about linking my name with big clubs. So I’m very happy to be associated with big clubs like Real Madrid. But right now I’m focused on something else, to do a great job with my club.

Has Marcelo told you all about Madrid?

Not much. But when the season ends I will know, I will find out what is happening.

Are you having plenty of time to decide your future?

I’ll think about it when the season ends. I’m 23 and I’m at a good point in my career. When the summer comes I will sit down with Porto to see what is best for the club and for me, to see if the best is to continue here or leave. I think everything will happen at the end of the season.

What did you think to the words of Neymar when he said that you could play for any club in the world?

He’s more of a friend than a team-mate, and one of the best in the world, a great player. I was happy, but he’s my friend (laughs). I’m ready for any challenge…I’m meeting my objectives, playing well and trying to reach bigger heights all the time.

Who did you look up to?

As for right-sided player you obviously can’t speak of anyone other than Cafu. He is an idol for his victories and because he was the captain of the national team. Not just him, I also watched Maicon and I had a chance to play with him with the national side.

Have you reached the top?

I can’t stop improving. I’m on that line but I’ve not peaked yet. I hope to continue growing and improving.

Is the fact that you’re versatile your best feature?

I think it’s that I’m a brave player, regardless of the circumstances that I find myself in. I never give up, never back down and I think that’s important for any team.

What does it mean for you to play with the national side at Saint Denis?

For me it’s important to represent the Brazilian national team. Furthermore we’re facing an historic rival in an historic venue. It means a lot to me I imagine it means a lot for the others too. The game is important for our growth and the match will go down in history. I hope it’s a party.

Do you remember what happened here between France and Brazil in 1998 (Brazil lost the final against Zinedine Zidane’s France)?

I only remember a bit, I was seven. I always followed the Brazil matches in the World Cup. That team deserved the victory. Now other things await and I hope I can take part in a great game.

After what happened at the World Cup with Brazil (the 7-1 defeat against Germany) do you feel the need to put that image to bed here?

That was a sad moment. But now the objectives are different and we’re going for the win regardless of who we’re playing.”
