The day of Oblak and Jiménez

Mario Mandzukic is injured and it is not known if his situation with Diego Simeone is over. Antoine Griezmann’s level has lowered a bit after eight weeks as a superstar. Fernando Torres will go further but he still has not scored in La Liga. The case is that no Atleti forward has scored a goal in exactly a month; five games in which only two goals have arrived (from Koke and Mario Suárez). Faced with this drought, Simeone has looked toward the end of the bench and against Getafe he will bet on an alternative solution: Raúl Jiménez will start alongside El Niño (who turned 31 on Friday).

Cholo spent several weeks praising the Mexican each time he had the chance to do so and he will back up his words with action. Jiménez entered Atleti on the wrong foot, the fans are wary and his only goal is scant medicine; today he will have his big opportunity. Like Jan Oblak, this is with the real option of keeping the position. Miguel Ángel Moyà will have recovered by the end of the international break, but if the Slovenian satisfies, it is probable that he will not be moved.

Hassles. Getafe hoped to take advantage of their opponents’ hectic week, but then their life became complicated. Between Ángel Torres demand to Quique Sánchez Flores and the match-fixing of 2012 which was denounced by Javier Tebas, they have had no peace. Neither are they helped by their proximity to the drop nor the the absence of the indisputable Juan Rodríguez, but Getafe continue to have the offensive resources to frighten an Atleti that cannot afford a failure in their duel with Valencia.
