Atlético Madrid tie up Tielemans deal for next season

On Tuesday, Atlético Madrid tied up a deal for Youri Tielemans, Anderlecht’s 17-year-old midfielder. This newspaper reported a few days ago that the Spanish champions are looking to reinforce their midfield options, with the young Belgian and Málaga’s Ignacio Camacho among their targets. There have been definite developments in their bid to sign Tielemans.

Taking advantage of the fact Atlético hosted Real Sociedad on Tuesday, representatives from the Spanish capital club held a meeting with emissaries from Anderlecht, including their managing director, and they established the basis of an agreement. Tielemans’ contract with Anderlecht expires in 2016 and he has a five-season contract renewal offer from the Belgian club on the table. The intention of the player and the Belgian club was to sign it to negotiate, without any pressure, with Atlético.

Although they have not gone beyond the terms of the tentative agreement, Atleti representatives left the meeting with the belief that Tielemans will play under Diego Simeone due to the agreement that was reached.

Tielemans is regarded as the best 17-year-old central midfielder in European football. He represents Belgium at Under-21 level and is a permanent fixture in Anderlecht’s starting XI. He impressed in the Champions League this season. Atlético monitored him very closely last season, sending scouts to watch him on several occasions. The club have received excellent reports and they believe they have secured the services of a player who will be a dominant presence over the next few years.
