James Rodríguez, Xabi Alonso, Iker Casillas, Marcelo and Gareth Bale were present at the unveiling of Real Madrid's third kit at the Bernabéu on Tuesday, where they spoke of a common objective for the coming season; to win the Champions League again and become the first club to retain the trophy since the inception of the current format in 1992. The last team to successfully defend Europe's most coveted prize was AC Milan under Arrigo Sacchi in 1989-90. In the previous season, Milan thumped Real 5-0 in the semi-final, in which Carlo Ancelotti opened the scoring.
James: "I think it is something special to play in the Champions League with Real Madrid, it is something unique to be at a club that wants to win and I hope we can do it again this year. I like the new shirt because the crest is big. This is a club is out of this world and to be alongside such big stars is like nothing else. I hope bit by bit I can improve."
Xabi Alonso: "For years we have been fighting for the Décima and we enjoyed [the victory] a lot. Now our objective is to revalidate that win, although it's difficult. If nobody has done it before there's a reason for that but we are going to go for it."
Gareth Bale: "For all of us winning the Champions League was fantastic but as Xabi said we have to look ahead now. We have to try and make history. Obviously, scoring in a final, and above all in the Champions League, is one of the biggest dreams. Anyone who has scored in a final feels fulfilled. We know there is always pressure at a club like Real Madrid but we like pressure. We will try and win it again this season."
Marcelo: "I remember in the final that I was furious not to have started the match and I had to go out and play my best. The memories are very good ones."
Iker Casillas: "We had been very close to the final and we missed out but we got there in the end. I have been here a long time and I have experienced some low moments. Both the bird and the dragon signify a revival and the strength with which we will try to win the Champions League. It's difficult to retain the title because no club has done it we have more enthusiasm and excitement than last year. We have a fantastic team, which is more experienced and more mature. I hope we win the Undécima [11th]."
