Toni Kroos spoke to Germany’s Bild Magazine and reflected on the months that have changed his life, winning the World Cup with Germany and leaving Bayern Munich. He reaffirmed that Pep Guardiola had nothing to do with him leaving the German side and that Real Madrid is the best club in the world.
Guardiola: "He perfected my game. My leaving Munich had nothing to do with him. We understand football the same way. I fine tuned my game and he helped me to evolve”.
Real Madrid and Bayern: "We’re talking here about the two biggest teams in the world but I think Madrid is slightly ahead. A perfect example is my presentation at the Bernabéu with 20.000 fans despite never having played a minute for the club. That type of situation is unthinkable in Germany; the Spanish fans are certainly more emotional.
Signing for Madrid: "I’ve made a great decision. I’m 100% happy at my new club".
Xabi Alonso: "Bayern didn’t have this planned. It’s a decision based on the needs at the club. There were a lot of injured players at the time. I don’t see any connection with my signing for Real Madrid".
La Liga: "The Bundesliga is more aggressive than La Liga. Spain has a great technical level; even the small teams try and play football."
Relación con Cristiano: "We do live in the same neighbourhood, that’s true. I’ve only been living there for just over a month so we haven’t had time to meet on a social level".
Learning Spanish: "When I got back from the World Cup I started attending as many classes as I could, at least a class or two per week. At present I speak with Ancelotti in English and that works well".
Coaches during his career: "Whilst at both Bayer Leverkusen and Bayern Munich. Jupp Heynckes was the first coach to fill me with confidence. With Joaquim Löw I’ve grown in confidence too, even during Euro 2012 when I wasn’t playing".
