“He’s a great example to follow. You can’t judge Casillas on just one game,” Paco Alcácer stressed at a press conference in the aftermath of Spain’s defeat to Slovakia in their Euro 2016 qualifier. He added: “The game was a blip; Sunday’s game will give us impetus. Slovakia didn’t do anything and scored from a free-kick. I don’t remember the last defeat in a qualifier because I was a kid. As a part of the national team we’ve had to discuss it, but that’s OK, we’re all in the same boat and the best way to move forward is Sunday.”
César Azpilicueta was another player from the La Roja squad to speak to the media on a tricky day. The Chelsea defender made a similar point to his team-mate: “We’re all in the same boat. We feel responsible and we have to improve. We’re part of the national team and clearly we’re all here in the same boat and, of course, none of us like to lose.”
"Since 2006 Spain haven’t lost a qualifier; we were young and we didn’t want what we’re faced with now to happen. We’re only looking at the short-term and Sunday’s game against Luxembourg, which is complicated, and from there we’ll look to progress and top our group,” Azpilicueta said.
