Barta replaces injured Ramos for Spain's trip to Slovakia

Sergio Ramos will not travel to Slovakia. He has been replaced by Marc Bartra. The defender, who suffered a strain playing for Real Madrid in the match against Athletic and had to be replaced at the break by Raphael Varane, has suffered an injury to the soleus muscle in his right calf and has left the squad. For now, he is out of the match against Slovakia on Thursday. Spain play in Luxembourg on Sunday in the third match of their qualifying campaign for Euro 2016 and it will also be difficult for Ramos to travel.

The day did not go as expected for Ramos, with the Seville-born player arriving in optimistic mood: “I am always positive. I want to play in every game for the national team,” he said.

The Real Madrid centre-back was replaced by Raphael Varane for the rest of the match against Athletic yesterday. The reason was a discomfort in his soleus muscle and it may prevent him playing in the next two qualifying matches for Euro 2016 against Slovakia and Luxembourg.
