2.500 Bulgarian fans expected at the Bernabéu

Ludogorets has never seen anything like this. In Bulgaria, for the first leg, the game generated unprecedented levels of interest amongst the media and fans with the game being played at a packed 46.000 capacity Levski National Stadium. The return leg at the Santiago Bernabéu tonight has also caught the imagination with 2.500 Bulgarian fans expected to add their support to Dermendzhiev and his team. We know that a sizable number of these fans will come from the 100.000 Bulgarian immigrant population currently residing in Spain, who will want to support the team representing their country of origin rather despite the appeal and draw of the current Champions League holders.

Despite the fact that during the 90’s the club of choice for the Bulgarian football fans was Barça, undoubtedly due to the presence in the Catalan club of Hristo Stoichkov. Things have changed and with the Galácticos era and the current explosion of Cristiano, Bale and company, loyalty is now more evenly divided amongst Bulgarian football fans. Today Madrid face a Ludogorets side still living on a dream after Moti’s heroics in securing classification, despite having an irregular league campaign. Spanish player, Dani Abalo is the standout player of the season. He’s scored eight times and provided nine assists and is one of the most regular performers for the team. The options facing the team to not finish bottom of the group are minimal, but irrespective of what happens this evening, this is a game that will be remembered in the clubs history for a long time.
